Quentin Adams

Short film shot by Quentin Adams

I see so many beautiful women out there who think their not good enough for anyone else so they stick with the same asshole! Many girls tell me their stories how they been abused physically and mentally by someone they love. I'm really sick of it. Do you honestly think love is being lied to,cheated on and being abused? That's not love. Your way too beautiful for that. I hope you love my film and hopefully get this powerful/positive message through your head that you need to move on.. There's someone else out there who thinks your worth it.

How to get into modeling?

I get asked this question a million times a day! "How do I get into modeling?" I will try to make this as simple/short as possible.

Before I begin I want to ask YOU a question, are you serious about modeling? If you are you can keep reading. I ask this because so many people want to be models, want to be actresses, want to be this and want to be that. If you don't really want this? Save it for someone who really does.

Here's a few things you need to know. Just because you take photographs doesn't mean your a "model". Just because you were in 1 music video doesn't mean your a "model". Just because you went to a model school? You are defiantly not a model.

Here's a few tips to start your modeling career!

1. Practice.
To become a model you must practice. It may sound silly but, practice your posses in the mirror.  Look at how other models pose just so you can get an idea when you start shooting and so you actually LOOK like a model.

* Show your beautiful long neck, learn to extend you neck and make it look long.
* Everyone has a better side/fierce side, perfect it and show it off!
* Legs, Show off those long legs as best as you can
* If your short learn to look tall by extending your neck & not bending your legs.
* The best shoots are natural. Just have fun with it and try not to be so posy. Don't think just be confident.
* make sure you trying new things! Keep moving your body in every shot and also change your face expressions.
* have your friends & family take pictures of you constantly get the hang of being in front of the camera!
* Remember modeling is not fb, myspace or twitter pics. They are not the kind of photos where your sticking your butt out trying to look cute or putting your middle finger up.. That is not art!

2. Test Shoots

Once you've got the hang of practicing your posses and you think your ready to start shooting, start getting in touch with photographers. Test shoot with as much photographers as you can so you can start your portfolio, comp cards, head shots or even business cards if you want to go all out. Make sure also you are shooting with the RIGHT photographers. You will learn that in time. Try to make you portfolio editorial, creative and lifestyle photos. Try to leave out the ones where your wearing a lot of make up,  or your  in shots with other people, or photos where there's no emotion or you look weird. You will learn that all in time.. Also please try to look your age? Or try to look young. Because agencies love young fresh models so try to go for that! If you look to old who is going to want you? Now, when first starting off your portfolio make sure the photos are 8 by 10. Also, make sure you keep it to 15-20 photos. Make sure every photo looks different and better from the last photo. You will learn it all in time. It get's easier through  experience. Just keep shooting with many photographers non stop and then start a nice, clean book!

3. Find an Agent!

Once you have started your portfolio book, start looking for agencies in your area. It's simple just go to google.com and type in agencies in (your state). Make sure they're an agency and not a SCHOOL! you don't need to go to school for modeling ( that's kind of stupid ). Check out their website find out when their open calls are, what their emails are so you can email them your photos and measurements. When sending emails, only send your snap shots (snap shots are just simple/natural photos of yourself, agencies want to see you & your natural beauty!).  You want to send a head shot, body shot, half body shot and profile shot. As for measurements, bust, waist, hips, height, age, dress and shoe. Don't forget to say your name, age, address and contact information. Now, if they have open calls make sure you bring your port, comp card, and head shot w/ resume. ( head shot and comp card is not really necessary  but, might be eventually.) Make sure you are dressed simple. So wear tank and skinny jeans or shirt and mini skirt ( but not too short!). Just wear natural make up as well and make sure you hair is perfecto! Also wear your tallest heels!!

There's no need to call the agency and don't just show up because that's unprofessional! Modeling is not like finding a regular job. So, please just either send an email or go to an open call. This is very important make sure when you send your email that the files don't go over 2MB or else it's possible it will go to spam. So, you might have to make your photos smaller. Remember you don't pay the agent, they pay you! Good luck finding your agent!

4. Research

People want me to tell them step by step about photographers, head shots, comp cards, what to wear, where to go, who to write, scams, agencies names, other models, websites, how to pose, who to talk to or how did I do this, how did you do that.. blah blah blah. I love to give advice and thats really amazing that you come to me! But, you have to be motivated. Now, if you really want this... You have to do your research on everything you need to know about modeling! There's so much to learn and I can't tell you every single detail because that would take years! So just get some inspiration and start shooting! Remember google is your friend and you will only get better if you know your facts! Now, perfect your craft and good luck !!

If you still have questions about other things you can still write me and I'll be glad to answer.

"Waiting for Something More"

Photo taken by, TTMB Photography | MUA: C. Her Creations | Model: Kouwai Potocnik

When I look at this photo I see a beautiful girl, in the woods. But, It seems like there's something missing.. Something doesn't seem right .. So, I called this waiting for something more.. She could be waiting for anything. Maybe its love, maybe it's adventure or success. It looks like she wants to feel/search for something more, ANYTHING. I think I'm looking for where I belong because it's defiantly not here.

From this day forward I want my photos to have meaning, to have a story. That's the whole point of photography, to tell stories. I don't want to take a bunch of photos w/ make-up, cute clothes and no story line. What a waste of  a photo right?!

The photo is simple and chic BUT! Don't be fooled! We took many more with me taking a huge bite into a apple. When you see these photos you'd be surprised how a tiny girl like me could love an apple so much! Haha. Can't wait for the results! I honestly think the apple completed this photo, without it were back to basics. NO MORE BASICS for me.

If you love TTMB Photography? Check out more of her work! Oh, and be sure to like her page as well! She's fantastic! I really love how she edits her photos. Everything is sort of vintage looking and who doesn't love vintage right!? She was amazing to work with, hopefully we'll be creating art almost every week!! Haha.. Check out my Flickr to see more photos from the shoot!

* I'm wearing this lovely see-through blouse from Len Druskin & Leather Skirt from Forever 21 with some fab black booties from Love Culture. Hope you fall in love!

(Here's Just another photo I did with her awhile ago. We shot at the beautiful Foshay Tower in Minneapolis! I know with each photo your curious about this women more and more! So, come on .. Check her out. I know you want to really bad don't you? Here's her PAGE < Click it!)

New Snap Shots!

I'm always trying to take new snap shots constantly! I took these snaps like 2 days ago and I already want to take some new ones. I usually like taking my snap shots with film. (Most agencies wouldn't want you to take snaps with film, poloriod or professional cameras. So, just take them with your digital cam.) But, this time I just did it with my little baby, I phone 4.

Snap Shots are extremely important when sending to agencies. You would think that your portfolio, comp card and "your look" would be more important, but nope! It's the snap shots. If you don't know what snap shots are, they look similar to what I showed you up above. They need to be simple, clean and natural. You can wear a simple top, with skinny jeans or shorts and make sure you wear those heels girl! Agencies also require some with your swimming suit on.

You will need a head shot, half shot, full body shot and profile shot (side body shot). Try to change it up, when I say that I mean do some smiling and do some shots with your hair up/hair down. Also, make sure your wearing no make up at all or light make up. You can wear foundation & mascara, other then that , no more! One more thing, take your snaps on a plain white wall if you can or outside w/ no distractions around you. The whole point of snap shots is to see the real you!

* Please remember that being a model is not all about the glamour. It's more about your natural beauty, your personality and your confidence. So, keep taking those snap shots and send them to agencies! Good luck!

Please don't judge!

Photographer:Glamour Shots MOA | Model:Kouwai Potocnik | 4th Grade

"It started off with one little photo shoot and now look where I am now. I can look in the mirror and say I'm beautiful and I'm ready to help others feel beautiful too. " - Kouwai Potocnik

This is where it all began. This is the day I realized I would become a model some day and show people that beauty is not your height, your shape or a "certain category". I'm 18 years old. I'm 5'6 and I'm African-American/Asian. I think girls like me should be fashion models or runway models if we wanted to be. Why not!?

As a child I was a tom boy and different from the others. I was always made fun of every single day because I  looked different. I didn't have the best clothes, the best friends, or the best life of that matter. But, I never really let it get to me. My whole life has been drama and negativity. Trying to fit in wasn't an option. Things at home wasn't so great. My mom was unhappy with her life and we never really had a good relationship until now. We were moving house to house or should I say basement to basement. We've had so much help from friends to get us back on our feet and I'm so blessed for that. I've been through things you wouldn't really imagine.. Having a drunk/pot head living in our home, sexual abuse, screaming & arguments every night, runaways, wanting to commit suicide and living in fear for some years.

I love this photo because it reminds me of how strong I was. I always had faith that things would get better. I always had a guardian angel on my side. Things were really starting to get better when John Stepped in. John is a really close friend from the family, he's been in my life ever since I was a baby. He really helped me through everything I been through and helped us get back on our feet. Not only that, when my mom met Bill (her husband) she was a whole new person and became one of the most positive people I know today. Things really started to become a fairy tail when I met the love of my life (Trae). When I met him I wanted to do more, I wanted to achieve more and I wanted to make a difference.. I'm more happier then I've ever been. I regret nothing and I'm not ashamed of my past.

So, I'm just going to keep looking forward and do everything I possibly can. Not only modeling but, music, photography, acting, designing, owning my own business. There's so much I want to do! So I'll end this off with a small note, live life loving what you do, who you are and where you stand!

Wedding's, Best day of your life.

Envelop Shoot for Julie Swenson
Photographer: PhotoGen Inc. | Model:Kouwai Potocnik | Location: St. Paul, MN

(# 1. Original Size) (# 2. Original Size)

I was the shortest girl at the shoot! Yup! So what baby! Anyway, I absolutely loved this wedding shoot. Wow, Julie Swenson (Freelance MUA) did my hair & make-up. Can you say flawless!? Now, I'm really excited to get married. I really love that the make up is simple and there's not any distractions so, I can show off that big poof I have going on.

(Original Size)

So, They had me stand on this ladder. The thing is... I'm terrified of heights!! But, I made it through the day. The ladder was so shaky someone had to stand underneath me to hold it. Ugh, We made it alive guys, made it alive..

(Original Size)

I love big hair! I don't think many people can rock the fro. But, I would defiantly rock this look daily! (chuckles) If you thought this was a dress? You thought wrong! It's actually a long piece of white fabric. They just wrapped it around the models. Perfection huh? Your probably also wondering is that my real hair? I wish! But, weave is normal now-a-days. Who doesn't wear weave in this world?

Want to see more photos from the shoot? Click Here

I think when it comes to wedding photos black & white is so much better and gives the photo that romantic feel.
